The emergence of the super angels is helping to transform venture investing, giving more startups a lifeline.

"There is clearly a trend toward institutionalization of angel investing," said Jeffrey Sohl, director of the Center for Venture Research at the University of New Hampshire. "[What angels used to do] for psychic income is becoming professional. This is their real job, angel investing."
