Meet a Whittemore Undergraduate Student -
- Robin Gerum '10 - While a student at the School of Business, Economics and Law at Göteborg University in Sweden, Robin Gerum decided to expand his world experiences by coming to UNH and continue his undergraduate education. "The English language is viewed around the globe as a communication asset for the business world." As an international exchange student, he is a top student at the Whittemore School of Business and Economics. Enrolled as a Business Administration major with dual degrees in Finance and Accounting, he was recognized in February with an Academic Excellence Award for highest honors from the Whittemore School. In April, Robin was inducted into the International Honor Society, Beta Gamma Sigma (ΒΓΣ), the highest recognition a student can receive in business or management accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Overcoming culture and language barriers, Robin also excels on the soccer field as part of the UNH Men's Varsity Soccer team. He was recently named to the America East Conference Academic Honor Roll.
- Aniela Pietrasz '10 - As a dual-major in Economics and Math, Aniela Pietrasz chose to stay in-state to lessen the burden of out-of-state tuition costs. She finds it very liberating to be able to attend such a diverse university that offers students the choices to explore so many subject areas and experiment with their interests. A dean's list student, Pietrasz was recognized in February with an Academic Excellence Award from the Whittemore School of Business and Economics. She was recently invited to join Omicron Delta Epsilon (ODE), the International Honor Society in Economics. As a junior in the UNH Honors program, she is involved in the Honors Student Advisory board and the Inquiry student editorial board. She enjoys volunteering for the UNH Therapeutic Riding program and playing intramural sports.
- Molly North '10 - Growing up just outside Keene, Molly North wasn't eager at first to go to college so close to home. Though Durham wasn't exactly in her back yard, one of her goals for school had been to experience the world beyond New Hampshire. Now a junior at UNH, North marvels at the many worlds the University has opened for her. A top student in the Whittemore School of Business and Economics, she serves as a student representative for the UNH honors program and as a peer mentor for incoming first-year students. In September, she was named one of the University's first four Hamel Scholars, an honor reserved for junior students from New Hampshire who demonstrate high academic achievement and potential for leadership. This semester, North is realizing her ambition to study outside the state, spending three months in Florence, Italy. "Traveling to Italy has been a lifelong dream," she says. "It is something I don't think I could have done without all the help and support I've had from my professors and other people here at UNH."
- Jeffrey St. Cyr '11 - UNH sophomore Jeffrey St. Cyr of Alton, NH, is actively involved in local and state politics. He is a Dean's List student enrolled in Hospitality Management at the Whittemore School of Business and Economics. St. Cyr currently serves on the UNH Student Senate representing Engelhardt dorm sitting on the External Affairs and Public Funding for Higher Education committees. In the Lakes Region, he is a member and has served as Chairman of the Alton School Board and is a Belknap County District 5 state representative for the New Hampshire House of Representatives. He was recently recognized by the Manchester Union Leader as one of the state's emerging leaders in "40 under Forty". As one who is personally contributing his services to better his communities and the state, he understands the challenges of getting younger people involved in local and state government.
- Ted Broderick '12 - Ted's decision to attend UNH, allowed him to accept enrollment in the highly regarded Whittemore School degree program while continuing to ski at a national level. After winning the 2008 Waterville Valley Eastern Championships in GS in Slalom as an adaptive alpine skier, Thomas 'Ted' Broderick was considered an elite athlete. As he considered his choices for college, he thought he might have to put his passion for skiing on hold while obtaining his undergraduate degree. What he found instead was an athletic development program offered through a UNH cooperative program, Northeast Passage, for athletes with physical disabilities. He is a WSBE Dean's list student with honors majoring in Finance. As a WSBE student, he is training hard with the UNH Men's Ski team to increase his chances of securing a spot on the 2010 Vancouver Winter Paralympics team.
