The Teaching Cognate for the PhD in Economics is designed to provide graduate students with the necessary tools to become successful faculty members under the University's Preparing Future Faculty Program (PFF). The program includes faculty mentoring opportunities, teaching courses with faculty supervision, and direct experience with diverse... |
The MA in Economics builds on a strong foundation of core courses in economic theory and econometrics. Because this core borrows classes from the PhD program, it is taught on an entirely different level than stand-alone MA programs at other schools. Consequently, master's students are exceptionally well trained.
The fast-track, ten-month program is based on four terms running from late August through the end of May. It consists of three components:
- The Foundation (Term 1)
- The Core (Term 2)
- Concentrations (Terms 3 and 4)
The culminating experience is a master's paper for which students conduct original research in their chosen field with close mentorship from faculty members.
Careers
The program's strong emphasis on economic theory and econometrics, applied coursework, and independent research experience provides students with the skills that are most sought after by high-value employers.
