Whittemore School Web Server Privacy Policy
Scope.
This privacy statement applies to the Whittemore School Web server at the University of New Hampshire,
with a home page URL of http://wsbe.unh.edu.
This statement does not apply to any other Web servers linked
within the Whittemore School server at this or any other site.
E-Mail.
If you send us e-mail, using an administrative address
on one of the Whittemore School Web pages, we may share that
e-mail with others in the process of deciding who
should respond to it. We do not keep an archive of
such messages, but they do get recorded as part of
normal system backups.
Server Logs.
We keep typical Web server logs for the Whittemore School website that include:
- URL from which request received.
- date and time stamp.
- URL requested.
- file sent.
- browser used.
In the case of search forms, our logs
will include the search string that was entered.
Errors are also logged.
We may summarize these logs (normally once per week) and make
special summaries available to the
departments, offices, and organizations that are
information owners (contributors) and who are
serving their information from the Whittemore School web server.
These summaries may display the requesting URL and name of
file requested, frequency of requests for
Web pages by URL, by time, whether within the unh.edu domain,
by country of origin, etc.
Cookies.
A Web cookie is text information that a
Web server page can instruct your browser
to write to your browser's cookie file.
Many Web sites use cookies to track usage
patterns on their site on a page by page
basis. The cookie is
anonymous unless you give the
remote Web site
personal information that they
may associate with a cookie.
For details on how cookies work, see
the large colletion of information at
Cookie Central.
The Whittemore School web pages use cookies solely to monitor login status.
If you wish to control
cookies you need to use a browser
(such as current versions of Firefox, Netscape and Microsoft
Internet Explorer) that allows
you to control cookie requests received by the browser
(always accept, accept on approval, always deny).
Forms.
Some pages use HTML forms, ranging from very simple e-mail forms
to more extensive requests for information. Use of any
information entered on a form is determined by the
information owner of the particular forms
page. Some forms are inherently anonymous, while the whole
point of others is to enter information about yourself.
We expect Whittemore School information contributors to
include a privacy statement with any information
gathering that is not anonymous.
But, absent
a clear statement accompanying any form, if you have
questions or doubts you should direct them to the owner of
the page before entering the information.
